PFhoe 2011 ShowreelPixelFarm asked if they could use our train shot from The Prototype in their new PFhoe 2011 Showreel. PFhoe is software that performs “camera tracking” or “match-moving” which allows you to place 3D animated objects into handheld live action footage.

Prototype TrainThe 3D train we created for The Prototype has been accepted into the Lightwave 3D Gallery! Lightwave is the program we used to build and animate the train, so we’re thrilled they selected our work for display!  You can read what other artists thought of the train on the Lightwave Discussion Forum.

Prototype Fish Visual EffectsThis was Zoe Jarman’s best take, but it could’ve used more fish in the background. Here’s how we added fish from other takes!

Prototype Fire Visual EffectsHow to light a kitchen on fire! Borrow a friend’s barbeque. Build a trough out of blackwrap. Fill with lighter fluid. Film the flames in front of a black background. Composite the flames over the shot. Add a little glow. On-set light interactivity preferred.

Prototype Train Visual EffectsGhostlight created this train entirely in the computer for the film The Prototype. The handheld shot was never intended for Visual Effects, which made incorporation difficult due to a lack of on-set supervision and measurements. This video shows how we modeled, surfaced, animated, and composited the train for the film’s climax.

We usually enjoy dressing up and setting up ridiculous-cool haunted houses to pass candy out to little ones after scarring them to tears. This is our first Halloween doing absolutely nothing but work. But it’s all for a good cause: The Prototype premieres on Sunday. Woo!

“It seems that so many people I’ve run into tell me how it’s impossible to do what I believe needs to be done. James and David, however, are so far in the other direction I find it mind-boggling. On my film they not only accomplished difficult tasks assigned to them, but also consistently surprised me by doing things I thought unfathomable and impossible, and that was without my asking. Necessary and spectacular technical shots would appear in my film before I had even put in the brain power to conjure them up. Ghostlight’s technical know how, ambition, and can-do attitude quite frankly makes me afraid of them.”

“Ghostlight rocks the proverbial socks, creatively and technically. From editing to camera work to mind-boggling special effects – whether it’s a critical last minute insert shot or modeling an entirely digital train from scratch – Ghostlight always meets our needs… and then blows our expectations out of the water. With Ghostlight on a project, the process is smooth and the results are outstanding.”

“I consider myself extremely lucky to have worked with Dave and James, two of the most talented, professional and fun film-makers I’ve ever met. I don’t think I can accurately express how much better our project turned out because of their involvement. The Codeglias edited our feature film, engineered all of the visual effects and even helped out with the sound design when time was running out. They are extremely skilled in so many aspects of filmmaking that it feels like they did the work of ten men.”
